God Meets Us Where 3 Great Stories Intersect

Here are some thoughts to get ready for Easter, and then a free and timely gift for you that springs from these stories. But I would like to expain the context of this gift with these stories before I give you your gift. So here we go:

I have two really special Passover Lamb stories I want to talk about, and then I want to show how they are connected in a very special way.

  • The first story is the the story of the Israelites as slaves in Egypt. They were made to work hard, building bricks, and their masters were cruel. But God had a plan to rescue them. Moses was chosen to be their leader.

When he repeatedly went to Pharaoh and asked him to free the Israelites, Pharaoh repeatedly said “No.” So God gave the 10 plagues to the Egyptians to show Pharaoh that God was in control. Although they were all powerful, the last plague was the most dramatic. God sent an angel to kill all the firstborn babies and the firstborn animals of the Egyptians. But He...

The Big Picture Helps Us to Understand

Uncategorized Dec 29, 2017

Happy New Year!

In this new year of new directions, let's talk about getting our bearings. In order to know where you are going and how to get there, you need to know the big picture.

Not Fun Feeling Lost!

Do you remember the feeling of being lost? Have you been in a corn maze where every cornstalk at every turn looks the same and you have no idea how to find your way out? Or how about hiking when you wander off the trail and you attempt to find your way back and all the trees look the same?

As a child, I remember one of my favorite attractions at Pacific Ocean Park (it was in Venice, CA, but it is long gone), was the House of Mirrors. In the maze of mirrors, I remember having no idea which way to turn. Yet, everywhere I turned, I saw the same thing- ME!- Along with the myriad of available directions I could turn that reflected around me. I guess somehow, seeing myself in the midst of it all, it gave me the false assurance knowing that I could see myself and therefore, I...

Not the Best Kind of Thankful!

thankful thanksgiving Nov 19, 2017

Did you ever consider that there could be a good and better kind of thankful? This was a Thanksgiving thought I had not considered. I hadn’t really thought of it much. All my life I was told to be thankful for things, so I was. The Bible says be thankful, so I was. (Let me make it clear that I’ve not been perfectly thankful all the time. I’m sure you could have already guessed that.) So, how could “being thankful” possibly ever be less than best?

This week, I was challenged by this Thanksgiving thought. There is a good and a better kind of “thankful,” and it’s worthy of our attention. Many years in the past, our family has shared around the dinner table at Thanksgiving, each person telling of one thing they’re thankful for. I thought it was great. But looking at it now, I was missing something really important.

What Was Missing?

I was missing the object of our thankfulness. It’s not enough to be thankful for our family...

A 20 Year Book Metamorphosis and Contest

publishing teaching kids Oct 26, 2017

About 25 years ago, I put together a book out of a need for my family and church. It was a team effort of Ralph Rittenhouse and myself. It became very popular and is still selling thousands of copies a year.

But it didn't always look like it does now! In this video, I am displaying a few of the changes this book has been through in over 25 years' time. The first copyright was earlier than 1995!

Here is the fun part. I have left out the mention of 2 changes that were significant in the process. There may be more.

If you find any changes that I did not mention, be the first to comment on them in the post below and I will send you a free  Plug into God's Power 26-Day Kid's Prayer journal and Books of the Bible bookmark. (Only one per family and you have to be the first to comment)

Thanks for listening and I hope you enjoy watching the transformation of this book!

10 Top Tools for Teaching the Important Things to Kids (and adults)

tools for teaching Sep 26, 2017

Are we making a connection with our kids? Are we teaching so they understand? Or are we just teaching, and HOPE they understand? I think there is a big difference! You need to be communicating clearly and with impact with your kids.

There are many approaches to teaching. Some teachers figure that kids don't have the comprehension of adults, so they don't give them much to comprehend. They leave out the hard stuff. Some teachers think that all facts are equal, and teach them in the same way that one would teach college student.

I don't think either of these teaching styles is right. I believe kids can understand many deep concepts if they are taught in a way that will help them understand. I also believe that you can lose them in the dust, galloping down the road of education.

I presented a workshop called 10 Tools for Teaching the Important Things to Kids to teachers at a teachers' convention a while ago. I am itemizing the ten tools here. Here are the 10 top tools for teaching just...
